John V. Mallon Wins Two Defense Virtual Trials

June 25, 2021

John V. Mallon obtained two successful verdicts in virtual trials for defense clients held remotely via Zoom this past month. In both trials, the jury deliberated for less than an hour.

The first was a liability-only trial held in Bergen County in May. Litigation arose out of a long-standing family dispute which culminated with the plaintiff alleging his aunt, the defendant, ran him down with her car. The defendant denied it and said the plaintiff jumped on the hood of her car and refused to get off. After the plaintiff declined to dismount from the vehicle, the defendant drove a mile to the police department. The jury found that the aunt was not responsible for the incident which resulted in her nephew on the hood of the car.

The second was a threshold trial arising out of an accident, held in Hudson County in June. The plaintiff alleged various neck and back injuries and underwent epidural injections in her neck. Doctors testified live at trial and the jury ultimately determined after just fifteen minutes of deliberation that she did not sustain a permanent injury as a result of the accident.
