Ryan J. Gaffney was recently elected to the Board of Trustees of the New Jersey State Bar Association, representing the Association's Young Lawyers Division (YLD). The YLD provides New Jersey’s newest lawyers an opportunity to network and enhance their professional development by interacting with attorneys across different practices. Division members organize and promote activities to assist new lawyers in the practice of law and encourage pro bono and community service involvement.
Ryan originally became involved with the Hudson County Bar Association YLD during his clerkship. It was one of the first organizations he joined and became very active in, eventually serving as the President last year. Through the Hudson County chapter, he interacted with the New Jersey State Bar Association YLD and started to attend meetings. Ryan has had a positive experience meeting new people and developing relationships through the Division. His involvement has allowed him to network with more senior attorneys and judges and to moderate panels and discussions.
One of the panels Ryan moderated and spoke at was the “Motion Practice for Young Lawyers” panel during this year’s New Jersey State Bar Association Annual Meeting, which was held virtually in May. This interactive seminar presented by judges and young attorneys gave real-world advice on motion practice in the Law, General Equity, Family and Criminal Divisions and answered frequently asked questions.
Ryan recognizes that serving on the Board of Trustees is a serious commitment and a great opportunity. He is honored to be serving amongst a prestigious group of attorneys who have already taught him so much.
