Maria P. Vallejo, chair of the Firm’s Women’s Initiative, will be moderating an esteemed panel celebrating the legacy of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, which kicks off the New Jersey State Bar Association (“NJSBA”) Women’s Leadership Conference on January 13, 2021. The virtual conference will be held from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The panel discussion, titled “I Dissent: Justice Ginsburg, her New Jersey Legacy and the Power of Speaking Up”, will feature the late Justice’s former law clerk Rachel Wainer Apter, who is the director of the Division of Civil Rights; Seton Hall Law School Dean Kathleen Boozang; Rutgers University Law School Vice Dean Rose Cuison-Villazor; and Dalya Youssef, president of the New Jersey Muslim Lawyer’s Association.
The program will be followed by a dynamic round-table discussion with five of New Jersey’s Supreme Court women justices (Justices LaVecchia, Patterson, Pierre-Louis, retired Justice Long and former Justice Hoens), talking about forging their career paths and learning to speak up. The day will conclude with a consultant providing a workshop on improving communication skills.
Maria is a Trustee of the NJSBA Women in the Profession Section and Co-Chair of the Diversity Committee, and is a commercial litigator and land-use attorney.
