Several CLMC Partners and Of Counsel received honors and presented seminars at the New Jersey State Bar Association's Annual Meeting and Convention, held virtually on May 19-21, 2021.
Ralph J. Lamparello, past President of the New Jersey State Bar Association (2013-2014), was a speaker for “Has Coronavirus Taken Women Back to the 1950s? The Benefits of Identifying, Supporting and Retaining Female Talent in the Wake of COVID-19.” The panel included Hudson County Superior Court Judge Kimberly Espinales-Maloney, J.S.C., Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor Najma Q. Rana, and several leading private practice attorneys. The discussion addressed the disproportionate impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on women in the legal profession and what can be done to help women and the legal community as a whole continue to progress.
Hon. Peter F. Bariso, Jr. was the moderator and a speaker at “The Supreme Court Year in Review” with Supreme Court Justice Barry T. Albin, Supreme Court Justice Anne M. Patterson, Supreme Court Justice Lee A. Solomon, Hon. Jeanne T. Covert, A.J.S.C., and Hon. Deborah Venezia, P.J.F.P. The esteemed panel discussed the most influential Supreme Court cases from the past year.
Maria P. Vallejo was installed as a member of the NJSBA Nominating Committee, which reviews and nominates candidates for the Association's Board of Trustees, Nominating Committee, and delegates to the American Bar Association. She also participated as a panelist for “A Year After George Floyd: A Moment or a Movement?” with New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal and other attorneys. The seminar discussed the struggle to uncover and eliminate systemic racism from the law in a society facing crises of bigotry.
Cheyne R. Scott moderated an all-female panel of top litigators in “Know Your Worth: Recognizing and Communicating Your Value in the Legal Profession and Beyond.” Cheyne and the panel discussed the hurdles for women and diverse attorneys negotiating terms of employment, and dispensed advice on how attorneys can assert their value and grow it.
Ryan J. Gaffney was elected to the Board of Trustees of the New Jersey State Bar Association, representing the Association's Young Lawyers Division. Ryan also moderated and spoke for “Motion Practice for Young Lawyers,” an interactive seminar presented by judges and young attorneys giving real-world advice on motion practice in the Law, General Equity, Family and Criminal Divisions and answering frequently asked questions.
