Raymond J. Seigler Represents 13-Year-Old Victim of Racist and Sexist Harassment

Raymond J. Seigler is representing an East Brook Middle School student in her suit against the Paramus School Board and her bully.  The student, the only Black child in her class, was subjected to repeated racist and sexist harassment that the School was aware of but failed to stop. The harassment included heinous racial slurs, slander designed to ostracize the student, and threats of violence. As a result, the student’s mental health declined.  She no longer wanted to attend school and suffered from stress-related injuries, eventually receiving psychological counseling after threatening to harm herself.  Her parents considered leaving the country.

John V. Mallon Wins Two Defense Virtual Trials

John V. Mallon obtained two successful verdicts in virtual trials for defense clients held remotely via Zoom this past month. In both trials, the jury deliberated for less than an hour.

The first was a liability-only trial held in Bergen County in May. Litigation arose out of a long-standing family dispute which culminated with the plaintiff alleging his aunt, the defendant, ran him down with her car. The defendant denied it and said the plaintiff jumped on the hood of her car and refused to get off. After the plaintiff declined to dismount from the vehicle, the defendant drove a mile to the police department. The jury found that the aunt was not responsible for the incident which resulted in her nephew on the hood of the car.
