Maria P. Vallejo is a civil litigation attorney with extensive experience representing clients in commercial, government-entity defense, personal injury and appellate matters. In addition, her practice includes employment, contract, estate, probate and municipal law. Since 2009, Maria has effectively represented the State of New Jersey and County of Hudson in thousands of bail forfeiture matters, including several successful appeals.

For the past four years, New Jersey Monthly Magazine has named Maria to its list of Rising Stars® in the field of General Litigation.  No more than 2.5 percent of the attorneys in the State are named to Rising Stars®. In August 2013, the New Jersey Law Journal named Maria to its “New Leader of the Bar” list, recognizing her as one of the State’s 40 accomplished lawyers under the age of 40.  Formerly known as “40 Under 40”, the list identifies a select group of distinguished young attorneys selected for their outstanding career achievements, and for their contribution to the legal community through their leadership in bar and other activities.

In addition to her role at the firm, Maria serves as the Vice Chair of the District VI Ethics Committee by New Jersey Supreme Court appointment.  The Committee assists in the investigation of allegations of unethical attorney conduct.  She also is the Membership Secretary of the Hudson County Bar Association, slating her to become the first Filipina-American president of the Association.  

Maria volunteers her time as part of the Hudson County Bar Foundation’s scholarship committee, which interviews and awards worthy law students scholarships. She also demonstrates strong committment to diversity and is an active member of the  New Jersey State Bar Association's Diversity Committee and Asian Pacific American Lawyers Association of New Jersey.

In 2015, the Governor appointed Maria to the New Jersey State Board of Accountancy, where she remains an active board member. The Board regulates the professional conduct of persons licensed as having special competence in accounting.

Maria joined Chasan Lamparello Mallon & Cappuzzo, PC, in 2008, after completing a judicial clerkship with the Honorable Peter F. Bariso Jr., A.J.S.C., Hudson County Vicinage. Prior to practicing law, Maria had a successful career working as a journalist for nearly 10 years. For the last 7 years of her journalism career, she worked for Dow Jones & Co.®, where she was an editor and financial news writer.  Her articles have appeared in Dow Jones Newswires ® and the Wall Street Journal ®.
