Experience

Joel A. Leyner is recognized as a preeminent trial attorney and gifted mediator, and is routinely called upon by judges and other attorneys to resolve complicated conflicts between litigants.  Frequently retained in complex business, corporate and securities litigation, his exceptional trial skills have also enabled him to recover substantial verdicts in serious personal injury, medical malpractice and products liability cases, and he is often appointed by the courts to act as a special master in intricate business and environmental tort cases, either to adjudicate a dispute, mediate, or act as a discovery master.

Under Joel’s leadership, Chasan Lamparello Mallon & Cappuzzo, PC, the Firm he co-founded in 1957, helped establish and continues to support the Hudson Inn of Court, which hones attorneys’ skills, ethics, professionalism and civility.  Deeply committed to the program, Joel has served as a master and president of the Inn.  He has served on the state’s Supreme Court Commission on the Rules of Professional Conduct and the Supreme Court of New Jersey Ad Hoc Committee on the Skills and Methods Course, and was appointed as one of only five attorney members of the New Jersey Commission on Professionalism in the Law.

In 2005, Joel was awarded the New Jersey State Bar Foundation’s Medal of Honor, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to improving the state’s justice system through legal practice and professionalism.  In prior years, his broad accomplishments were recognized with the receipt of the Trial Advocates of New Jersey’s Trial Bar Award for Distinguished Service in the Cause of Justice, the American Board of Trial Advocates’ Commitment to Excellence in the Profession Award, the New Jersey Commission on Professionalism in the Law’s Professional Lawyer of the Year Award (Hudson County), and the Distinguished Service Citation from the Hudson County Bar Association.

Included in The Best Lawyers in America list in four separate specialties—Appellate Law, Bet-the-Company Litigation, Commercial Litigation and Personal Injury Litigation—Joel recently added yet another credit to his outstanding portfolio when he was named a 2009 “Super Lawyer” by New Jersey Monthly Magazine, ranking him in the top five percent of the state’s attorneys.
