Thomas B. Hight of the insurance defense department obtained a no cause verdict before the Honorable Joseph Isabella, J.S.C. in Hudson County. Plaintiff sustained significant injuries and her damages as a result of the accident were stipulated to be $200,000. The case was tried on the issue of liability only. The Firm’s client, who was insured by New Jersey Manufacturers Insurance Company, struck plaintiff with his car while plaintiff was riding a bicycle in the opposite direction. Tom was able to show that plaintiff had been following a bus for 4 blocks before deciding to pass it on the left hand side and also established that she did not look into oncoming traffic before attempting to pass the bus. The jury deliberated for less than 20 minutes before rendering a verdict finding no negligence on behalf of the Firm’s client.
